curriculum
The GasMedix RFA Program includes an ASSE 6020 class and an RFA Essentials class combined, designed specifically for the Responsible Facility Authority as prescribed in the NFPA 99. RFA Essentials training is required for the interpretation of codes, shutdowns, the Permit To Work for Medical Gas Systems, the 6020 in-wall pipeline inspections, emergency management planning including the “Total Loss of Gas Plan”, back-feeds, bulk system requirements, and acceptance of the verifier report, test reports, and pipeline installer report.
To assure a working level of competency this includes the proper training to be able to fulfill the obligations in 5.1.14.1.2.2(1) that states “the responsibility of the RFA is to be able to advise on the code issues regarding risk assessments related to categories of care and all content in the NFPA 99 sections 5.1 through 5.3 regarding medical gas systems code for category 1,2, and 3 facilities.”
The course content is a concurrent combination of ASSE 6020 content and RFA specific responsibilities.
Levels of competency are achieved by completing all four elements of the 6020 RFA Essentials curriculum.
Introduction to 6020 RFA
Medical Gas Basics and RFA Duties
Medical Gas Code and RFA practicals
Advanced Medical Gas Study for 6020 and RFA
Continuing education is required because it is a requirement to be able to advise on the code. The Code changes periodically and a new code is published every three years.
